Join us in Pula: Housing cooperatives and social transition panel disscusion

In Pula, together with DAI SAI – Association of Architects of Istria MOBA members – Smarter building (Belgrade) Cooperative Open Architecture (Zagreb) and Cooperative for Ethical Financing (Zagreb) – are organizing a panel disscusion about new housing cooperatives. What is significant and exciting is that the city of Pula has expressed interest in implementing this way of housing organization in its future practice! Join us on Friday, March 1, 2024 in the premises of the Society of Architects of Istria, Smareglina ul. 1, Pula, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The focus of this meeting will be the transition from the market model of housing and apartment building to a housing policy based on the creation of a fund of affordable and non-profit housing units in public and cooperative ownership.

Positive examples from European countries will be presented in which housing cooperatives provide an innovative vision of construction, housing and life in the community. The forum will discuss ways of implementing and encouraging the implementation of the model by local self-government units, and local and regional initiatives working on the development of cooperative housing will be presented, as well as the results of regional research on housing needs and available financing methods.

MOBA Housing SCE is a network of organizations from Slovenia (Zadrugator), Serbia (Pametnija Zgrada / Ko Gradi Grad), Hungary (ACRED / Zuglói Kollektív), the Czech Republic (Sdílené domy / První Vlaštovka) and Croatia (Cooperative Open Architecture), with the support of the Cooperative for Ethical Financing and the organizations urbaMonde and World Habitat. We are responding to similar problems of lack of housing policy and affordable housing in our cities and states, and we have designed a joint approach based on the cooperative model. We believe that together we can overcome these obstacles and make a breakthrough for a new model of cooperative housing. In 2017, we decided to join forces and meet regularly in order to gather the necessary knowledge, capacities and develop financial instruments for launching pilot projects in our region. Since 2020, we have been registered as a European Cooperative Society (SCE) as the first such organization in Croatia, with headquarters in Pula.
