In a train, on our way to Berlin: there are two important events for MOBA happening there this week.
First, tonight kicks off a gathering convened by Mietshäuser Syndikat, the German umbrella organization of self-organized housing (almost 200 of them) of non-profit type, with the aim of launching a European network (and founding a cooperative, SCE) of community-led housing organizations! Exciting, right? As a unique regional umbrella organization, MOBA members are invited to be one of the founders of Community spaces network. In addition to Ana Džokić and Marc Neeilen from Smarter building (Belgrade), Zsuzsanna Pósfai from ACRED (Budapest) and Goran Jeras from Cooperative for Ethical Financing (Zagreb) will be participating in this memorable meeting on behalf of MOBA.
Than, we will be part of a workshop: International financing of young housing cooperatives in Central and Eastern Europe held in Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin and co-organized with IWO Housing initiative Eastern Europe, MOBA housing, LiM Living Metropolises SCE, University of Jena.
Coming together to make an effort in creating better, affordable, community-led housing throughout Europe. Good times.

November is the month for cooperative assemblies!
In our newly opened Center for New Housing Cooperatives in Belgrade, a working meeting and annual assembly of our European cooperative MOBA Housing SCE was held. We summarized where we were during the twelve months behind us (among other things at 7 international events), what we did, what we tried and also what 2024 brings. During next year we will hold a special focus on the establishment of the MOBA Accelerator, a fund that will support pilot projects of the new housing cooperative created by MOBA members.
Workshop: International Financing of Young Housing Cooperatives in Central and Eastern Europe

Where: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Thaer Institute.
Organisers: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, IWO Housing Initiative Eastern Europe, MOBA Housing SCE, LiM Living in Metropolises SCE, University of Jena
Goal: The main objective of this workshop is to kick off new networks and collaborations to support the institutional build-up of MOBA SCE and LiM SCE, as well as other emerging housing cooperatives in CEE. To do so, the event will give insights on current tendencies of housing cooperatives.

As part of Urbanize! festival Predrag Milić moderated the panel “Let’s talk about money” where experiences were shared with cooperative housing initiatives from Austria and finance experts. For the first time we held our work meeting in Decin (Czech Republic) and spent three intensive and inspiring days as guests of thriving Druzstvo Racek (Racek in Czech means ‘seagull’). The work of MOBA is crucial for the establishment of pioneering projects of a network of new housing cooperatives active in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia. The existing housing offer in the region is aimed solely at individual home-ownership and tailored to the needs of nuclear families, even though there is a clear need to diversify the types of dwelling and the organisation of housing. Members of Racek shared: ”We are proud to be hosting such an important pioneering network and that we can be part of it.”
