Resources

With our members, MOBA produces and shares open, practice-based resources for communities and actors working to develop non-speculative housing in Central and South-Eastern Europe. Our materials are rooted in regional research, real projects, and hard-won experience. They are meant to be used, adapted, and challenged.

RESEARCH

To understand where alternative housing models can take root in the region of Central and South-Eastern Europe, MOBA conducted comparative research in the wider region with a focus on Belgrade, Budapest, Ljubljana and Zagreb that combines population surveys, market analysis, and interviews with financial actors across eight countries.

FINANCIAL PLANNING

OpenFRM is MOBA’s open-source financial planning toolkit for multi-apartment, collectively-owned housing projects. As it is designed as a flexible spreadsheet model, it allows groups, practitioners and other actors to explore the real costs, risks, and long-term affordability of cooperative and rental housing.

The tool supports both quick feasibility sketches based on key parameters and detailed financial planning across design, construction, financing, and long-term operation. Open FRM will provide detailed feedback on the financial consequences of individual decisions you make regarding your project and tell you all about incoming and outgoing flows of finance (cash-flow) over a period of up to 35 years.

(GROWING) LIBRARY

MOBA members publish materials drawn from their on-the-ground work and contribute to conversations about cooperative housing. These reading materials cover aspects from cooperative governance and legal frameworks to financing strategies and community organising, capturing lessons learned while building housing under conditions where no ready-made solutions exist.
